Ever seen an Indiana Jones poster with Hebrew text? Well, here’s your chance. Behold: the Israeli teaser poster for “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” in Hebrew, below the title it reads “May 2008″. The Hebrew name, thank goodness, is an accurate translation (this coming from the same distributor that translated “No Country for Old Men” into “Rough Country” in Hebrew), but it still sounds clunky in either language.

I get the phonetic spelling for Indiana Jones, and the im-malcach (in/with the kingdom), and glglt is head, so ha-divlach must be Crystal?

Raveh to Rick: Nice try. the Hebrew title is - Indiana Jones (natch) ve-mamlechet gulgolet ha-bdolach
mamlechet=the kingdom of (mamlacha is “a kingdom” without the possessive); gulgolet=skull; bdolach=crystal.
ve is “and” and ha is “the”.
And thus a nine word English title is reduced to a five word Hebrew title.

Ah, well … my Hebrew is a bit, how shall we say it? Rusty seems to be an understatement …
