“Hancock” had a preview screening in Tel Aviv yesterday and Eden, one of the readers over on my Hebrew blog saw it and sent in a brief comment. He was not happy with what he saw:
Saw “Hancock” yesterday and it’s a very peculiar movie. Halfway through the movie swerves into a direction not hinted in the trailers. It went into what I think is the wrong direction and nearly ruined the movie with being overly melodramatic. It’s not a bad movie, it was still pretty enjoyable and I think it will make heaps of money but it reminded me of “The Last Action Hero”, a movie that marked the end of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s rein as the king of action movies. If Will Smith doesn’t look out “Hancock” could be the beginning of the end for his career.
Oh dear. “The Last Action Hero”? Overly melodramatic? Can anyone else elaborate?

Will Smith’s career would not be ruined by this, seeing as he is such a powerhouse. Someone like him can go through a “Wild, Wild West” or “Hancock” in this case and be fine.

If you can’t recognize Last Action Hero as being a pretty good movie, then your criticism probably isn’t worth too much.

“The Last Action Hero” has always been and always will be one of my favourite movies, I think it’s funny, cute, and has enough action.
I seriously doubt “Hancock” will ruin Will Smiths career. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Will Smith movie I found bad, and definately not ‘career ruining’, because he is a great actor <3

I’ve gotta agree with Megara, I enjoyed “The Last Action Hero”, so if “Hancock” is as good and as innovative, I’ll be content. Recent TV ads have hinted at a somewhat darker tone to “Hancock” than the initial trailers did, and I’m OK with that - I’d rather have some (melo)drama than non-stop pointless action, but maybe I’m weird. I reckon that if folks were still willing to watch a Wil Smith film after the festering cesspool that was “Wild Wild West”, “Hancock” doesn’t pose any danger to his acting career.

Whoa since when has arnold ever really done a terrible movie besides twins and that having a baby movie? srsly.
Will smith has always done good to amazing movies. It’s probably just a movie not for everyone.

Hancock looks like interesting spin on the latest superhero movie craze… if nothing else at least Will Smith tends to be pretty funny
